's scores for All About Eve and Leave Her to Heaven, written five years apart for major films with dark psychological themes from 20th Century Fox, have been gathered together on this beautifully produced CD. Sometimes, one has to wonder why and how the studios failed to appreciate the value of the music that they were generating on a regular basis for film projects such as this - 's music is so melodic and so inventive in its accessible way that it's amazing that more wasn't done to sell it to the public in the form of soundtrack albums at the outset of the 1950s, when the LP was perfected and the recording industry was starting to boom. 's work here is some of his best and most subtle - beyond the opening fanfare (which is repeated in other contexts in the score), the score pretty much moves to the interior lives of its characters and the resulting music is among most subtle and quietly seductive of his career. His music for Leave Her to Heaven is a lot more heavy-handed, and is one of his darker scores - he focused on the passions that drive the main character to the horrendous acts that she commits, and the result is a kind of enveloping body of orchestral music, filled with sweeping themes and arrangements. At their most serious, they're closer in spirit to the work of than to. The sound is first-rate and the bonus features include the stereo mixes to certain cuts from All About Eve.

Kim Ki Young's 1960 classic The Housemaid is widely regarded as one of the best Korean films ever made. Fifty years later, acclaimed filmmaker Im Sang Soo brings the thriller to screen again with a highly anticipated remake that has garnered both critical acclaim and huge box office. Invited to the Cannes and Berlin Film Festivals, the 2010 retelling of The Housemaid magnifies the lust, manipulation, and domestic power struggle of the original into a full-blown erotic psycho-thriller.

While Kim Ki Young's Housemaid saw the unraveling of a middle-class family in the hands of a femme fatale maid, Im reverses and subverts the story by sending an innocent housemaid into the lion's lair and witnessing her abuse and transformation amid the cold and cavernous beauty of the palatial mansion. Award-winning actress Jeon Do Yeon stars as poor divorcee Eun Yi, who gladly signs on to work as a nanny and housemaid for a wealthy, upper-crust family.
In her naive eyes, the rich and handsome Hoon (Lee Jung Jae, Typhoon), his pregnant wife Hae Ra (Seo Woo, Paju), and adorable daughter (Ahn Seo Hyun) make the picture-perfect family. But that myth is soon shattered when the domineering Hoon finds his way to her bed. Their torrid affair upsets the balance of the household, unleashing a cruel power struggle as Hae Ra, her mother (Park Ji Young), and the head housekeeper (Yoon Yeo Jung) all answer with their own calculated measures. Remake of the 1960 film 'The Housemaid'. Im Sang-Soo started preparation for 'The Housemaid' since early 2009. Scenario has been completed as of October 19th, 2009. Filming will begin in December 2009, once casting has finished.
In a reversal of the original film, 37 year old actress Jeon Do-Yeon will play the nanny (equivalent to the original film's housemaid) and 22 year old actress Seo Woo will perform as the wife. Filming will begin in January and finish sometime in March. Production company then hopes to submit the film to various international film festivals. During the Cannes Film Festival, movie distributor Mirovision sold 'The Housemaid' to Greece (AMA Film), Hong Kong (Edko Films), Singapore (Festive Films) and Thailand (M Pictures). The film was also presold to Pretty Pictures for France prior to the Cannes Film Market.
